Thanks to the Seaton's, we welcomed our SIXTH beautiful grandbaby into the world on Sept. 8th. Morgan Kae Seaton is as unique and special as they all are. Morgan is sweet, very cuddley, quiet (at least for now) and really loves to be swaddled and HELD. We blame the latter on her mother. How grateful I am for beautiful, healthy and happy grandbabies who are loved and cared for by wonderful parents. I never realized how wonderful it would be to enjoy these precious kiddos, play with them, spoil them and then go home to a QUIET bed and let their parents deal with the rest. I highly recommend it. INTRODUCING MISS MORGAN KAE SEATON: WHAT A BEAUTY JARED IS QUITE THE "MOMMA'S BOY" AND IT IS ALWAYS A CHALLENGE TO GET HIM TO COME PLACES WITH ME...OR JUST LET ME HOLD HIM. I USUALLY HAVE TO RESORT TO A CANDY BRIBE! KAELYNN CELEBRATED HER FIFTH BIRTHDAY WITH A PRINCESS THEME AND OF COURSE A PRINCESS BIKE...SHE IS THE PRINCESS; THAT'S FOR SURE Never a dull moment with JADEN around....he is NEVER still. We planned a girls only weekend for weeks and then Julia couldn't go. We really did miss her. Having spent years attending the girls sporting events, I am familiar with most all the sporting terminology. I know what a spike, handoff, 3 pointer, or a foul is. I even learned the difference between an outside hitter and a middle hitter! Now I am a grandparent of boys! This weekend I learned what a cradle, takedown and nearfall are. We met the Solers in Austin to watch Jacob and Jaden wrestle in the state tournament. Jacob was worried about making weight (thank goodness we never had to go to this extreme for the girls!) so he shaved his head! For unity or because he is goofy, Jaden did too. Kaelynn had absolutely no worries about "making weight" or cradling someone! She just enjoyed herself. Although, notice the jump rope injury on her nose.... The wrestling tournament was exciting. They start out with a parade to introduce the different teams. The boys have a great coach along with their dad who coaches also. Jacob's first match HE Pinned the guy! Apparently you get points for take downs, and also points for getting out of a take down. So I am wondering should you let them take you down so you can get out of it? But...if you pin the guy you automatically WIN the match. Which is exactly what Jacob did....TWICE! Let's just say Jaden really enjoyed the atmosphere much more than actually wrestling. He didn't get the results Jacob did; no pins or cradles but I remember him taking a kid down or at least moving him around the mat. Jaden had a great time. He even ate a burger before his first match! At one point Jake had Jacob wrestling (He Won) then Jaden right after him. Here is Jake getting Jaden ready and Jacob on the right after his match. Jared is no doubt a future state wrestler as well The boys had a blast and we couldn't be prouder of them!

I was so excited to have Julia and the kids visit for 2 whole weeks. I brought them back to Portland with me after the 4th of July weekend in Amarillo. After a long drive with Jaden, Kaelynn, Jared and Julia (Wes and Jacob got to fly) we got back to Portland and for the next 2 weeks we all experienced a lot of Firsts.
IT WAS THE FIRST TIME: Jaden rode his bike without "Pepa holding on to him" Wes participated in "crafts" at a Childrens Museum or anywhere for that matter Kaelynn fished at a children's museum Jaden was excited to be a purple bird Woke up this early with the kids on purpose. We left the house at 5:30 am! Been on the beach at sunrise...shame on me. Any of us have seen a Kemp's ridley sea turtle release. These are the most endangered of the sea turtles and approx. 100 were released that morning. Very cool! Kids have been this close to a sea turtle These guys will be in the water! Jared stepped on the beach Jacob ran a weed eater All 4 kids were still and not fighting at the same time Jacob was still AND quiet at the same time Pepper was still enough for a picture to be taken So many "kids" in a baby pool without the baby And finally: First running away note from a grandkid Translation: "Sorry but I'm leaving Portland Love Jaden"(he also left his extra cash with the letter in case we needed it)So thoughtful.

Wes and I found a Wildlife Refuge in Aransas Pass that had a 16 mile paved trail that loops around the place. You can circle and circle it to get as many miles in as you want. There were very few visitors there and we had a nice paved road almost all to ourselves. It was great not worrying about traffic and pretty too. Don't ask how many times we rode the loop because I would have to tell you 1. We are both out of shape and have to start somewhere. Did I mention it was 84 degrees at 8:30 a.m. and very humid. We took some before shots just in case some "wildlife" drug us into the bushes!!! Does this outfit make my butt look big? Don't answer that... I took my camera in case we saw anything interesting. While trying to take a picture of some deer and not crash I ran over a snake (I didn't see it Wes did) then dodged another snake in the road; And all the while staying ON my bike! Wouldn't want to fall in that water! By the way...Wes is now taking a nap! Looser

Although it is still officially spring, it is VERY hot here. I feel as if summer has begun and it isn't even June yet! We have had a blast this spring on the coast...if I remember correctly it all started when Chip and Josh came down.....
My brother and I...We have always been so close! Wes, Chip and Josh at Pier 99. It's a must do when they visit. NuStar gang at the MASH BASH Jaden and Jacob at Sea World Jordan and Brandon met us at Sea World then came to Portland!!! Deep sea fishing with Wes, Jacob, Jaden, Jordan and Brandon. Played babies with Kennedy. I think she is going to want several of them!!! Met up with Cody, Kennedy and Jena at Fiesta Texas Cody and Kennedy meeting "that guy" at Fiesta Texas.

Jena, Cody and Kennedy spent an ENTIRE week with us and it was WONDERFUL!!!! They ate great seafood, shopped, fished, went to the beach, went to a concert, played and played with Kennedy and had a great time in San Antonio. It was a great Mother's Day week. Julia's kiddos made me a video, and Jordan and Brandon sent me some great pictures of them and the babies (granddogs!) Jena, Cody and Kennedy gave me a new robe. Then, best of all the girls gave me a ring from James Avery. I love it. Happy Mother's Day to me!!! Thanks girls.

Thanks to Diane, my long lost buddy from Amarillo days past, I have received my first blogger award.
I am to post 7 things that no one knows about me and then nominate 5 fellow bloggers to do the same. So here goes......

1. I am obsessed with a certain soap opera. I STILL watch "The Bold and the Beautiful" every day. Actually I record it and watch it sometime during the day or weekend. I have watched as long as I can remember...shhh don't tell anyone.

2. I am the favorite child and grandchild of the family on both sides; just ask GiGi, my dad, my brother or anyone related to me. I always have been!

3. I love to buy small kitchen appliances and gadgets. I usually don't use them and some of them I don't know how to use, but I love to collect them. Does anyone use their powdered sugar spoon? I think mine is cute but have never used it.

4. I often live out of the dryer! I hate to put clothes up. I like to wash and dry them but after that I am done. I have used the "dewrinkle" cycle more than once so I could wear something..oh, I don't iron unless I absolutely have to either.

5. Lately, I have been singing to the radio quite loudly in my car. I have been told I am a terrible singer but I really do think I sound good sometimes! I am practicing so I can get better at Rock Band! I stink at the guitar and drums so this is all I have left! Kids be ready for my next trip home.

6. I went two days in a row last week without bathing OR washing my hair...I know, GROSS but I didn't feel good and didn't care.

7. When I was a little girl about 12 years old or so I went with my grandparents and aunt and uncle on vacation to Arkansas. While we were there me, a friend of mine and a couple of cousins (they were innocent bystanders) stole a case of empty coke bottles from a laundry mat in town then we went to the filling station to "cash them in" little did we know the owner of the gas station was related to the owner of the filling station and were on to us. But, the man gave us the cash, let us take off, then proceeded to call the resort and turn us in. I have since repented!!!

GREASY NO MORE

I have never been too much of a "dog person". Don't get me wrong, I have owned several dogs growing up and have had several since I have been married and the girls were born. It is just that I have never been one of those people who dress their dogs up, or make photo albums of their dogs or especially call them my babies. I don't mind people who do that; it's just not me. Pheobe was our (Jordan's) home run dog. Jordan was in a batting slump in the 6th grade (is that possible in the 6th grade?) and Wes promised her a dog if she made a home run. I know, probably poor parenting. Anyway, a game or two later she hit a triple and kept on going; needless to say the next week we found Phoebe at the Animal Rescue shelter. She had been left by the side of the road near Austin as a puppy and was somewhat scared and timid. Jordan loved her; we all did. But, after a while Pheobe became the scraggly dog in the backyard. She always had this greasy skin problem and Jena's dog Penny used to bite on her ears and pull the hair out of her tail. Don't call the humane society; it got better as time went on. After Penny and Jena left, I got a peekapoo named Rocky. He became the new puppy and got lots of attention. Phoebe tolerated Rocky and Rocky annoyed Phoebe. Soon after that Wes was transfered to Corpus Christi and I was expected to go with him! Jordan had since moved into an apartment and couldn't keep Phoebe with her. Wes and I wondered ALOT about taking Phoebe: how would she do in the heat, how would she even do on the 10+ hour trip, what would we do with her when we traveled back to Amarillo, etc. But, we took both dogs with us and thus my love for Phoebe finally began. Phoebe became my friend, my confidant, she and Rocky went to the mailbox with me everyday, she loved riding in the car to the bank or Sonic and Phoebe did very well in the coastal weather. She continued to have this nasty oily skin problem; so the vet gave her medicine and some great shampoo! Only problem was I had to bath her 3X a week with the shampoo. It is true that you love those you serve. I certainly spent a lot of time serving and shampooing Phoebe. She was the sweetest, mildest, most loving dog I have ever had. Unfortunately Phoebe met with an untimely death last week. How I miss that darn greasy dog. Since funerals and burials are not really my style for canine friends, I thought she might have liked this tribute. Seeya later sweet dog.

In an attempt to have my grandchildren some 600 miles away from their parents, I am allowing them to keep mom and dad posted on their daily events. With some help of course.
WE MET THE PILOT AND COPILOT. WE CHATTED WITH THEM WHILE THEY ATE BREAKFAST AND GOT READY FOR THE FLIGHT. THEY SEEMED QUALIFIED. OUR FIRST FLIGHT AND NO FEAR HERE...DAD! HOUSTON LAYOVER WHEN WE GOT TO SEA WORLD THE HONEYMOONERS, JORDAN AND BRANDON WERE THERE. THEY WERE LOTS OF FUN TO HANG OUT WITH. SEA WORLD HERE WE COME!!!! CHECKING OUT THE HEIGHT REQUIREMENTS... WELL...THE FIRST THING WE DID WAS EAT WE CONQUERED THE "STEEL EEL" WE MADE SOME NEW FRIENDS SAW A 4-D PIRATE MOVIE JADEN'S MODE OF TRANSPORTATION JACOB HAD FUN ALL DAY SNACKS FOR THE DOLPHINS ON OUR WAY TO CHURCH...Jaden tuck in your shirt!!! Love ya Mom, Dad, Kaelynn and Jared. We are on our way to the Lexington!!!

JARED WESLEY SOLER FEB. 19TH, 2009 7lbs. 11oz. He's here and did our newest grandson ever come into this world with a bang. After an induction, labor, an emergency C-Section, PRAYERS ANSWERED, and a little oxygen, we finally met this little guy. Julia has never done anything the easy way; and I have a feeling Jared will be the same. He is sweet, cuddly, and WONDERFUL. Julia is doing great also; she is such a good mom. I was just as worried about MY baby as I was Jared.

Yes, I am one of those people. Kim got me hooked on the Twilight series and I loved every one of the books. Then I decided to buy myself The Host. It isn't part of the series, but very good so far. I am entitled to get myself a Valentines present if I want to; so I did. Wes has never been very "ahead of the game" when it comes to The Holiday of Love. Last year he stopped on the way home and got me a house plant. Nice; but me a house plant! Anyhoo, I opened my book to read the other night and found this: Guess Who tried to take credit for my purchase-The AntiValentine Bandit..Good try Wes! Happy Valentines everyone; we are off to Amarillo for baptisms, babies, and who knows what!!!

As many of you have pointed out, my Dallas Cowboys didn't play so well yesterday against the Rams. Ok, they didn't really show up to play. Ok, they stunk up the field! Even head coach Wade Phillips said the cowboys played the "worst game this teams played since I've been there". I know that; I saw the game. But, being a Dallas Cowboy fan since I can remember, what makes us unique is that we don't give up on our Boys. Wes was a 49ers fan when I married him (but he told me he liked the Cowboys!) He gave up on the Niners when they quit winning. Cowboys fans don't do that-not the True Blue fans. Romo is hurt, Roy Williams is hurt as well as Felix Jones and Terence Newman. Even the punter is injured (I can't remember his name). We will come back and rise to the occasion. I haven't been so sad about a Cowboy game since my little brother Chip cried after a hard Superbowl loss. I hope he didn't cry yesterday....Cowboys will bounce back as usual and hang on to their title of "America's Team".

THE QUIET IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!

It sort of feels like the day after Christmas. You know, you get all excited, make lots of plans, cook, clean, shop, wait for the moment when you can get together with your loved ones; then it's over and whew...kind of a let down. After a fun filled weekend home in Amarillo, my quiet, empty and now clean house on the coast of South Texas isn't nearly so appealing. The belt on the self propelled lawnmower broke; so I have been the propeller until the new one comes in. I know what you are thinking-what a wimp. Well, that may be true but I am used to the propelling when I mow! Wes brought me home the nicest present a few weeks ago-a new weed eater. Not, diamonds, candy, flowers, or even clothes (which he can't really buy for me anyway) but a piece of yard equipment! I have been pretending I just can't work it right, but I am considering mowing the entire lawn with it if the belt doesn't come in soon. Back to being bored and lonely...It's not like there aren't things to do here. I went to a Institute Bible Study Tues. morning, have a friend who is going to help me get started scrap booking, we are going out to dinner tonight with couples from Wes' work, and tomorrow night to the Sinton Pro Rodeo (I AM excited about that one) and of course I have Wes and the dogs. But nothing compares to having your house full of kids and noise and music and laundry and homework etc...OK I guess I am in the middle of empty nest syndrome. I could go get a grand kid but the 3 oldest are in school and Kennedy won't sleep through the night-also I doubt her parents would part with her that long. I have even done "You've been Boo'd" bags for two families just to get something festive and Halloweeney started here Maybe it's the diet I am on. Could the lack of Dr. Pepper, chocolate, and chips and salsa be going to my brain! That's it.. I am going to take Rocky and Phoebe (the dogs) to the park and pretend they are children-who knows they might love to swing and slide. And the merry go round..wait til I put them on the merry go round.... See how excited they were when I told them where we were going!!

Wes and I had such a great weekend in Amarillo. We went to dinner with our best friends, I attended Jordan's bridal shower, Wes watched Jacob's football game, we went to Jacob's baptism, attended church with the Soler's, had a birthday party for Kaelynn on Sunday afternoon, watched the Cowboys loose with Jena and Cody (what is the deal with that?) and went out to eat with Brandon's parents Sunday night before catching a plane home Monday morning. Whew...We loved it, but Wes thought the schedule was a little too full...he's an amateur at fun filled weekends. JACOB AND JAKE BEFORE THE BAPTISM. I get REALLY excited when I plan a trip home to Amarillo. This trip is no exception. We are flying the friendly skies to see our beautiful daughters, visit with dear friends, see some sorely missed family members, attend a bridal shower, our oldest grandson's baptism, meet up with some future in laws (wait, is that what you call parents of your future son-in-law?), and most importantly (sorry girls but it's true) see our GRANDKIDS. We are celebrating Kaelynn's 3rd birthday, Jacob's baptism, Jaden's soccer games, and Kennedy's 6th, yes 6th, tooth! I love these trips so much. The fact that Wes is coming along, makes it even that much better. I will have lots of pictures and stories to blog about when I get back. AMARILLO HERE WE COME!!!!

After watching Wes "Conquer the Coast"Saturday; I am inspired to get back on my bike after weeks (possibly months) of me ignoring her. First of all, my front tire was flat, then my odometer battery was dead (I am convinced the thing thought its work was over and no need to go on) so then I remembered that after you change the battery, everything goes back to 0. The mileage, average speed, etc. What an amazing thing this has always been for me in my life; to be able to go back to 0. Believe me when I say, I have needed to change batteries MANY times. How happy our family, friends, and especially our Savior must be when we change our batteries, go back to 0, learn from our mistakes, and start fresh. Yay for new school years, clean sheets, empty laundry baskets, babies, blank canvases, and especially Repentance.

Wes rode the "Conquer The Coast" 65(officially 68) mile ride Saturday. It was part of Corpus Christi's Bayfest sponsored by NuStar Energy(Go NuStar). He did great and finished strong. He said riding across the harbor bridge and inter coastal highway was fun! He did report that only the last 10 miles were less than wonderful. . . . . . . . .I was the official "pour water on him" person; it did start getting pretty hot!! Approaching Mustang Island He finished in 4 hours 15 minutes including rest stops Looking at this picture..all he needs is a big gold chain around his neck with that shirt unzipped!

I heard a great quote Sunday but am not sure of the author. It has stuck with me all week. My Sunday school class had the opportunity to go with other kids from church to sing, take cards, and visit with some sweet folks at the assisted living center here in Portland. The kids sang their hearts out and quickly warmed up to the nice people that lived there. She was so proud of her card; she asked me to take this picture..This couple seemed to be mesmerized by the kids singing and clapped after EVERY number.Finally..HELEN who is 104 YEARS OLD! She was confined to her bed; but loved being sang to, was very talkative and told us she got the BIGGEST room because she was over 100! She also told me to "stand up straight"! Go HelenI think we all may have come to know Christ a little better Friday afternoon because of one another.

I grew up going down in my grandmother's cellar when the tornado sirens went off. My mom even used to drive us under I-40 and park there thinking we were safe from a tornado (She didn't know any better). We had a basement at home in Amarillo before we moved to the COAST. The point is, I am used to the tornado drills. I have even been in a bathtub with a mattress over me, gotten in the crawl space under our house-very gross, and practiced laying in a ditch by the side of the road (again, my mom's idea); but a HURRICANE!! Add a little water to the scenario and it's seems more uncertain and scarier to me. No need to worry though; I have our 72 hour kits ready, the car gassed up, hurricane shutters ready to put up and of course plenty of peanut M&M's (the perfect protein food). The dogs both got baths and haircuts today and we have Phoebe's "Happy Pills" for traveling. We also have reservations in San Antonio just in case-Can you believe the Hilton near the airport will let you bring your pets? I don't like the possibility of this wet, windy, and vicious storm approaching us at all. Please pray that Ike will GO AWAY. On a lighter note; Rocky got a bad haircut today. He seems to be upset about it!

I rode my bike this morning to Sunset Lake. This is the same route I always take. Wes has been training for the Conquer the Coast ride so he prefers to ride to the point of heat stroke; whereas I prefer to ride to the point of hunger. Anyway, on the route there are these 2 annoying, squeaky, chihuahuas that I have named Satan and Lucifer. They bark and run toward me snarling and showing their teeth but are on long chains attached to a tree. I have started almost laughing at them because I know they can't bother me or run out in my path. Well, not TODAY, one of them, Lucifer the bigger of the two scrawny rats, ran out in the street nearly in front of me. Scared the crap out of me. I am not afraid of the dogs, but of hitting one with my bike and crashing and hurting myself. This has happened before, just ask Wes or Kim or anyone who has ridden much at all. Lesson-Don't think Lucifer is just out of your reach and can't bother you. Just when you let your guard down...there he is!

This morning I put my hair in a ponytail with Kaelynn's purple ponytail holder that has a lovely purple flower on it (don't even try to visualize). For breakfast I ate the last container of Kennedy's Gerber Stage 2 bananas, and loved em. Afterwards I brushed my teeth with a "mystery" toothbrush-not sure which grandchild it belongs to but I will say it HASN'T been used very much! I am sorry to whomever is using mine. I just finished tearing out more pages of flower bouquet ideas for Jordan's November wedding, while finding a place to keep baby bottles, spoons and a pacifier I just found in the couch cushion. I am still looking for my scripture markers I let Kaelynn color with. And before I step outside to mow I am putting "Just for Kids" cutter family mosquito wipes on. Just a few leftovers at our house from visits of the past few weeks. No wonder I miss home and family 650 miles away!!!OK I admit I do whine a lot about missing home, family and friends. As I was mowing, I told myself to be more positive and think of the things I love, OK like, about our new "ADVENTURE" so here goes.... . .I like the weather. Even though it is hot right now, the weather is great.... I like the church here. Very friendly, non judgemental, funny, laid back, Christ loving people.... I like Sonic Happy Hour. Don't tell me you have it too. I like to think I'm special.... I like our neighbors. We were invited to an engagement dinner after just barely meeting our next door neighbors. Our backyard neighbors (no alleys) live in California and have been here a total of two weeks in the last year.... I like no alleys. I really do!!!... I like that I can finally grow crape myrtles. I know you people in Amarillo can too-Kim-but this is my only shot. They practically grow wild here.... I like that Wes' office is 10 minutes from our house. It's only 7 if I drive it.... I like that we have a fun place for family and friends to visit.... I like that you can wear flip flops all year long.... I like that I found C.A.S.A... I like it that I am a dolphin trainer. I DO have a certificate!!!... I like it that I haven't yet met a rude teenager here. I am sure there are some, but so far so good... I like it that when I got caught dumping my grass clippings in the empty corn field across the street, I didn't get in trouble. Is that wrong? Wes does it.... I LOVE it that I now know how much I love and appreciate my family and friends. I may have never had the chance to really know how important they are to me!!!! Wait, did I just count my blessings?

HAPPY LABOR DAY

We had a great Labor Day weekend. Wes and I picked Jena and Miss Kennedy up at the airport Friday night. Jena wasn't feeling too well, so Kennedy and I had a slumber party all three nights. She slumbered mostly on Friday and Saturday night, so Sunday night she was ready to PARTY!! Jena and I did get some shopping in while Wes Kennedy sat one afternoon then we went to the mall and found some necessities we needed. Did honor the tradition of eating at pier 99. Kennedy was busy the whole time she was here.............................SHE ATE SHE PLAYED IN BUBBLES AND THEN THEY WERE GONE.... Wes took me on a bike ride this afternoon to take my mind off the empty and quiet house. Here are some treats we see along the way to Indian Point Park on our rides.... Jellyfish came out for Labor Day Roseat Spoonbills (thanks Vicki) Scenery does help keep me pedaling. Great breeze at sunset.......HOPE EVERYONE HAD A HAPPY LABOR DAY

Missing My Mom

Hurricane Gustov is on the way! Doesn't look like he is heading towards South Texas but maybe Louisiana. Hope everyone prays for the people in it's path and especially Louisiana; they sure don't need another big hit. Hurricane Jena and Kennedy are on their way too! I am so excited to have someone else to play with over the Labor Day Weekend. It will be so much fun. Sorry, Cody, Jordan, Brandon, Julia, Jake, Jaden, Jacob, and Kaelynn wish you could come too. That would make for a perfect weekend. Labor Day weekend is always sad for me. On Saturday morning Sept 3rd 1994 my mom left left us for heaven after a battle with ALS-Lou Gehrig's disease. That weekend was the same as the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. Jena was able to attend with her friend Katie and was interviewed about mom and how she "used to have a Grammee" who went to be with Jesus. Very sweet but very sad. How I miss that woman! How my mom would have loved watching her granddaughters grow up to be such lovely women. Oh my gosh, she would have spoiled her great-grand kids; probably more than Wes and I do. I sure could use some time for a good long talk with my mom; lots of venting and much needed advise from her. Who am I kidding, I already know what she would say about most things; get along and love each other. I sure do miss her Bunches!Me and Mom when I was 2 mths old; she was only 20 yrs old! Grammee with Julia and Jena at Babyland General(Cabbage Patch Hospital) after adopting 3 newborns. Mom is holding Jordan's because she was too little to ride the airplane to Georgia-some things never change!!!!

Wes teaches the adult Sunday school class at church. He studies an enormous amount of time for his lessons. I have not had to priveldge to attend any since I teach nine year olds at the same time, but I have been told he does a great job. I even heard he is often Funny??! Wes also needs glasses to read but leaves them at work. He borrowed mine. When I walked into the kitchen I just found this funny. I don't know why since I probably look the same in them, but I did. What do you think, should I just give the spectacles to Wes??!! He is kind of cute in them isn't he??!! REMEMBER TO CLICK ON THE PIC FOR A BETTER VIEW

******Kaelynn 3(almost) Jacob 8 Jaden 5********* I just got this pic of our 3 oldest grand kids taken before "Meet the Teacher Night" in Borger. I can't believe how big they are getting. Jacob is starting third grade while Jaden will be in Kindergarten and Kaelynn is going to Christ Club two days a week. Way to go Jake and Julia! Jacob has already started tackle football and right now is playing Corner back. Jaden claims he is currently in training for basketball and Kaelynn just wants to do everything. Sure do love and miss them

Now What?

Jordan left this morning for Amarillo...I am not sure what to do now. My life has been nonstop since I went to pick Kaelynn up July 28th. As I left the airport without my youngest daughter in tow, I felt very alone. Wes was at work, so he couldn't help with my delima. Our week of running errands, shopping, creating things, and of course eating too much, has come to an end. Jordan goes back to school Monday-both college and coaching-so she will be busy, Jena is back to work from our little OKC vacation and Julia is possibly done throwing up and feeling gross morning sickness. The grandkids are going back to school except Kennedy; they won't let her in yet. No fear, Jordan left me a few things to do and clean-thanks Jordan. I can probably keep myself busy for oh maybe 2-3 days. I wonder if they are going to call me from the aquarium to offer me a dolphin trainer job.... We spent a little too much time at the dreaded Marble Slab! Goodbye to that for a while too.

Today I went to my "Dolphin Trainer for a Day". It was a blast! I had to get up early, just like a real job. I learned several interesting facts about Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins and met 3 of them; Shadow, DJ, and Ky. I cut up fish, weighed it, fed it to the dolphins, learned a few signals, learned how to use a whistle as a bridge (dolphin trainer lingo) and even how to inspect the dolphins for any abrasions. And much to my surprise and terror, I got to give them commands during the 10 O'Clock Dolphin Show at the Texas State Aquarium. I was so afraid I was going to 1. fall in the water 2. fall in the water 3. slip and fall into the water-but I didn't.As you can see, I thoughtI was the only one giving the commands; didn't notice the REAL trainer doing the same thing by my side until I saw this video that Jordan took. And yes I can hear Jordan and Wes making fun of me in the background of the video. Thats OK they can't say they even tried to be an almost Olympic Dolphin Trainer for a Day!!!!

Well, our little Kaelynn flew home with me to Amarillo, and her dad was literally waiting as close to the gate as he was allowed. He was so glad to see her and Ok, I will admit it, she was thrilled to see her daddy. I kept telling her I was going to miss her, but all she could do was smile at Jake. I love that my granddaughter loves her daddy sooo much. Then after a few days in Amarillo wedding cake tasting, florist shopping, and all that wedding stuff with Jordan, Wes picked me up in Dallas and we went to the big OKlahoma City to meet the Seatons. We had so much fun with Jena, Cody and Kennedy. We went to the zoo, Bricktown, the mall, and ate at the Melting Pot. Melting Pot was great but way too much food. Kennedy even let me put her hair in the littlest ponytail you have ever seen on top of her head. She was sooo much fun and a sweetie. Kennedy loves her PePa almost as much as she loves her Nonna. Jordan is visiting us this week in Portland to finish up some wedding shopping. We are going to San Antonio tomorrow. We have had a lot of fun; although no sunshine yet to work on tans. Thursday I am going to be training some dolphins-well I am at least going to try to learn a few things at the Texas State Aquarium. I cannot wait. It was my birthday present from Wes. Who knows, I may have found my new career. We also have our first Eagle Scout (at least that I know of) on the Bacon side of the family. No, Chip didn't finally get past Life! Our nephew Matt is now an Eagle Scout and we are so proud of him. He and his parents worked very hard on this and now his reward has come. That reward being he doesn't have to do anymore paperwork nor listen to his parents ENCOURAGING him on!!! Way to go Matt!!

I figured I should keep Kaelynn's activities updated so her parents won't want me to bring her home early, so here goes...Today after church, we took a ride around the coast, rode the ferry and went to the beach. Kaelynn loved it and wanted me to take pictures to show her daddy(sorry Julia that is what she said). We weren't prepared to play in the ocean...but Kaelynn insisted. KAELYNN... Finally Filled up and Worn Out! Poor Rocky..... As a COOL Nonna I don't want to always tell my grand kids no or battle with them over irrelevant issues so I am trying to be open minded and FUN. I am not sure if that entails letting them eat most everything they want. Just since she woke up, Kaelynn has eaten: cereal, waffles, yogart, strawberries, chips (she did sneak those), granola bar and Wes just gave her a hot dog, chips and queso. All but the later were before 11:30 am! Maybe she is growing, maybe my food just taste better (it's possible), or maybe she is bored with a middle aged Nonna that doesn't have a trampoline. We have been shopping, played outside, played lots of doll stuff, and she has taken many baths. We are going to the beach and aquarium also. Maybe she is just having so much fun she is working up and appetite. Thanks to Julia and Jake for lending me a playmate! Our CASA (court appointed special advocate) training class was sworn in last night by Judge Lewis. It was kind of exciting. Can't wait to get started.

Granddaughters and Wedding Planning

I went home to Amarillo for a couple of days to bring Kaelynn back to Portland. It was her first plane ride and she loved it. She never stopped talking from the time we left Amarillo until we landed in Corpus. And that was 4 hours! While I was in Amarillo I stayed at my usual place-Seaton Inn and Suites. While I was in Amarillo, I went with Jordan to do some wedding planning. Her official wedding planner aka Kim presented her with several great ideas and as you can see Jordan and her Maid of Honor, Jordi, are always open to new suggestions!

So much has happened since I posted last...after Jordan and Brandon visited the Seaton and Soler families came to visit. We celebrated Jena, Jacob and Wes' birthdays. We celebrated Father's Day and Wes was able to bless Kennedy here in the Portland Ward on Sunday 15th (Father's Day). Except for missing a daughter and soon to be son-in-law, it was perfect. We all went to the aquarium, the boys went fishing (Jaden caught his first fish), the girls went shopping, and everyone but Nonna and the little girls went to the Lexington. The house finally felt like home.

Jordan and Brandon are officially engaged. He proposed at Palo Duro Canyon in a cave! I flew in and surprised her. So now we are busy planning a between Thanksgiving and Christmas wedding. Great timing except I really enjoy Thanksgiving and tend to over stuff so we will see how that goes.

I met my good friends Kim and Elaine in Fredricksburg for a couple of days of shopping, eating, visiting, eating, you know how we are. It was great to see them and catch up. How I miss my friends from home! I am certainly lucky to get to see them and spend fun times together.

Hurricane Dolly came and went. We were so fortunate in Portland not to have much damage. Just rain and wind. Wes had to head south to work on terminals and problems there. Many people in Harlingon, South Padre, and Edinburgh were without power and living in some difficult circumstances. We can all pray for them as the Lord watches over them and blesses them with what they need.

I have officially finished CASA (Court appointed special advocate) training and will be sworn in Thursday. This opportunity has enlightened me on the needs of children in some tough situations. I have already been blessed by attending training and meeting some wonderful and giving people. I can't wait to get started.

Finally, I am going to get Kaelynn next week so she can spend some time here with Wes and I. It will be her first plane ride and longest time away from mom, dad, and brothers. Thought Julia could use a break since she has been sick. Yep, we are expecting a new grandchild February 27th. It is so exciting; especially since I don't have to be the one pregnant or raising HER. I think its a girl but Julia thinks a boy is on the way. We will see!!! Can't wait to get Kaelynn here. Wonder if she will sleep in her own bed.........

Remember how I said I loved the weather in the south; water, cool breezes, just enough humidity to make your face and skin not dry...blah blah blah. Well, enough already it is really hot. I know everyone in the panhandle says it is hot there too but, seriously when you have to change your clothes after you check the mail or feed the dogs, that is ridiculous!!! I would post a picture but it would scare everyone. Even the dogs are grouchy. Wes played in the NuStar open on Monday and really had fun. He is definitely a beginner at golf but was happy to par on the 6th hole at La Cantera in San Antonio. George Strait played the tournament too, but Wes didn't get to see him. Wes keeps hitting balls into the corn field across the street for practice then spending forever looking for them. It keeps him busy-ha ha. I am trying to ride bikes early or late cuz it is so stinkin hot. Maybe by the end of summer I will get use to it; or suffer a massage heat stroke!

HOME TO AMARILLO

WES AND I MADE A TRIP HOME TO AMARILLO ON MEMORIAL WEEKEND. WE GOT TO SEE ALL THE GRANDKIDS EXCEPT JACOB..tear. WE SPENT TIME WITH KENNEDY AND SHE IS ATTEMPTING TO GO EVERYWHERE. AND I MUST SAY SHE IS BEAUTIFUL. IT SEEMS HER SWIMMING POOL IS HER FAVORITE PLACE TO BE RIGHT NOW. WE WENT TO BORGER AND PLAYED WITH THE KIDS; JADEN AND KAELYNN EVEN LET US TAKE THEM TO A CARNIVAL. FUNNELL CAKE...YUMMY!!

Birthday Girl Visits...

Julia flew into Corpus on Friday afternoon and just left late this morning after church. We had a great time and even got to celebrate her 25th Birthday with her! We ate at Pier 99, went to the Sandfest in Port Aransas, took a boat ride and YES WE SAW DOLPHINS..LOTS OF THEM. We were able to see a mom with her baby swimming right beside her. We did some shopping more eating and lots of talking. The three kids were more concerned about when she was getting home than what she did.

Nonnasitting Kennedy

Well, Wes and I made it home Saturday pm. Took some pictures along the way of wildflowers (bluebonnetts and I don't know what). Kennedy and I got along great although she did hide my keys in her diaper bag and Cody and Jena had to mail them to me! I told them not to punish her though because she just wanted me to stay. We ate, sleep, swang (she did) watched Ellen (her favorite show cuz it's funny) and visited GiGi. I am so sad didn't get to see Jaden and Kaelynn in Borger; nor Jacob. Went to eat with Jordan and Brandon and saw a new Husky puppy Brandon just bought-very cute. I have decided to do some painting around the house to brighten things up a little. Not sure what color or where yet. In 19 days Julia will be here to visit and spend her birthday-I can't wait.

ON MY WAY HOME

Well Easter was alright and I did get to teach a group of Sunday School kids about Christ as a young boy. I did have to do some research; but it went well. It was sad not being home and seeing the kids hunting Easter eggs. I also missed Aunt Robbie's deviled eggs, the Sargent's brisket and everything about Aunt Genny and Uncle Jim's house. I'll remember that next year!! I am going to Amarillo tomorrow morning to babysit Kennedy-yeah. Poor Wes will be here. The dogs got baths and groomed today so I posted pictures. Did I mention I get bored?

Ok, I realize I have been using this blog as more of a photo album than a place to keep friends and family informed of our life; as boring at times as it may be. Our move to Portland has been hard but good (ok I said it) in some ways. I have never more appreciated our family and friends than being without them and missing them. Jordan and her 3 best friends; Jordi, Whitney and Tory came to visit Wes and I for spring break. I am very tired and love it. I am reminded of times I ran 3 daughters to school, church, sports, friends' houses, movies, etc and still tried to cook, clean and stay sane. This kind of daughter visit is so different but so special to me. What wonderful women our 3 very lovely, talented and different gals have become. Jordan is coaching some fantastic 7th grade girls at Westover Park Intermediate School while finishing up her Education degree. Jena is married to a great guy who shares Wes' love for music and guitars. Jena is a nurse at a family medical clinic and loves her job; but not nearly as much as she loves Cody and their newest family member Kennedy Grace. What great parents they are. Julia is living with her family in Borger where her HARD working husband works as a police officer-among any other jobs he can find to support his growing family. Although Julia also is persuing a degree in Education; I personally think her degree should be in motherhood. She is a great one. Jacob, Jaden and Kaelynn are lucky to have her. As our first Easter away from Amarillo and family approaches, I am reminded of our Savior and His love for me. He is aware I am going to miss all my "loves" in Amarillo and I hope gives me an opportunity to serve someone this Easter that needs me. I am praying for that opportunity. I'll let you know how it goes.
